Del Norte County, Cal.- Search and rescue crews will attempt to reach two stranded Josephine County hikers Thursday morning.

The hikers walked into the Devil’s Punchbowl area of the Siskiyou Wilderness Tuesday. They spent the night and became stranded when several inches of snow fell in the area.

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office learned the hikers were stranded Wednesday. Search crews were hoping to reach them via helicopter, however the weather didn’t allow pilots to spot the hikers or land. Instead, state road crews spent the afternoon clearing the road to the trail head so crews could attempt to reach the hikers by foot. The search was temporarily called off Wednesday evening when conditions became too dangerous.

The hikers are believed to be sheltered and in good condition.
