12,000 marijuana plants seized from two tribal properties near Alturas

Alturas, Calif. — Over 12,000 marijuana plants were seized Wednesday from two alleged tribal growing operations near Alturas.

Federal warrants were served at a complex of 40 greenhouses operated by the Pit River Tribe, and a separate grow next to the Alturas Rancheria tribe’s Desert Rose Casino.

Modoc County District Attorney Jordan Funk stated in May that since the medical grows were on tribal lands, they weren’t violating any county or state laws.

The federal search warrant claims the scale of the grows is in violation of federal law, though no charges have been filed at this time.
