Medford, Ore. — The May primary election is just days away, but some Jackson County voters said they’re not marking their ballots until they get more clarity on the measure that would ban genetically modified organisms.
“That’s one reason my ballot isn’t quite done yet, but it will be here on time,” Jackson County voter Brenda Ministry said.
Farmers opposing the ban met at the Central Point library today to make a public statement and turn their ballots in.
Their rally came exactly two weeks after GMO ban supporters drove tractors through downtown Medford.
But despite their attempts at getting the word out, some voters say the measure is still unclear.
“I’m confused on some of the issues. Time consuming to search everything. The GMO thing I’m confused on,” Jackson County voter Ginny Stewart said.
And with the confusion voters said they are trying to avoid making a hasty decision.
“You want to make the right decision not only for yourself, but for the community. We’re a big family here,” Ministry said.
