Soldier dead after apparent accidental shooting in Oregon

CLATSOP COUNTY, Ore. – Police are investigating an apparent accidental shooting that occurred at a National Guard training facility in Oregon.

According to the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, a firearm discharged in the housing area of Camp Rilea at about 6:30 p.m. on January 31.

A soldier was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. The identity of the soldier won’t be released until family has been notified.

Camp Rilea is the National Guard’s primary training facility in Oregon.
