Medford School Board declares state of emergency

Medford, Ore. – The Medford School Board declared a state emergency on Wednesday January 29th, as it prepares for a possible strike by the local teachers union.

The Board says they have passed several emergency resolutions including giving Superintendent Phil Long extra authority to authorize spending and prohibit picketing on school grounds.

Negotiators from the school district and Medford Education Association met Tuesday for nine hours but came to no agreements.

The MEA says they plan to strike on February 6th unless an agreement is reached.
