Parking On East Main May Go Diagonal

The Parking Commission is proposing a novel change for the parking spaces in downtown Medford that would require drivers to change their habits.

The project on EastMain street would eliminate parallel parking on the North side of the street between Riverside and Central, reducing the roadway to two lanes tomake room for the diagonal parking.

The new parking comes with a twist…it would be back in parking, causing drivers to pull past the spot and back in. The new design was created to increase visibility as drivers leave the parking spaces.

To move forward, the project requires a traffic study and it will be up to the city council to decide to fund the study.
