Lost Creek Lake Water Advisory Ends

Ahealth advisory prompted by blue-green algae has been lifted at Jackson County’s largest body of water.

Yesterday, Oregon’s Harmful Algae Surveillance Program lifted the voluntary advisory against water contact with Lost Creek Lake. The advisory has been in effect since September 18th…making it the longest standing advisory of the season.

Lost Creek Lake has been plagued with outbreaks of Anabaena Flos-Aquae in recent years, and they have not been traced to a known cause.

The algae may produce toxins that can be dangerous to people and pets, but not every bloom includes toxins. When they do, the toxins are released when the algae dies and dissipates naturally.
