Campers at Ashland’s Emigrant Lake are pitching their tents for a relaxing labor day weekend.
“We’re here to have some fun and relax its been a while since we’ve been able to do that.”
“Tomorrow we’re going on the water slide and hopefully paddle boarding.”
But with nearly one hundred thousand acres burned in Southern Oregon,members of the Oregon Department of Forestry say just because you don’t see smoke,you should still be aware of the high fire danger this holiday weekend.
“It will be hot and windy so people need to make sure they are safe with fires.”
Caitlin Goins with ODF says camp fires are only allowed if you’re in an official campsite.
“Iif they don’t follow the rules they’ll get a warning and then get a citation.”
A citation that could cost anywhere from one hundred to one thousand dollars.
“We still have rules this is just for every ones safety.”
Kim Carrera traveled to Southern Oregon from outside of Portlandand says hes aware of the severity of this fire seasonand came prepared.
“That’s why we brought extra water and we’ll be making and camped close to a water facility so that if anything goes wrong we have it under control.”
Precautions to ensure a fun holiday weekend– stays that way.
Goins also said that a lot of fires start on the road,so she says if you’re planning to travel by car pack a shovel and plenty of water.
