Local Pawn Shop Cited

A Rogue Valley pawn shop is accused of accepting items without reporting them or checking for the seller’s identification.

Medford has a city ordinance that requires all pawn shops and employees to use the city’s pawn reporting system to make an electronic report of all property it receives in the case that it is stolen. Additionally, the pawn shop is required to document the ID of the seller.

The Medford Police Department investigated five pawn shops and found only one, All-Star Pawn, out of compliance. During the investigation, an undercover informant would pawn an item at the pawnshop and Medford Police would check to see if a report was filed. Out of the 4 undercover transactions, not a single report was filed.

We spoke with Noel Blandau, the manager of Medford Pawn Ltd, and he says he fully understands the importance of recording what comes in and who brings it in. “It could have been obtained through robberies, burglaries, worst case scenario anything you don’t want to see it could show up here so you want to be compliant to help all the people out…And people who are doing the wrong thing can be held accountable.” said landau.

Police cited two employees at All-Star Pawn for the misdemeanor crime.

So far we have not received a response from All-Star Pawn relating to this incident.
