Arrest Made in 2009 Tavern Murder

Police say they’ve cracked a three-year long investigation into the murder ofa Klamath Falls bartender…a suspect was arrested early this morning.

31 year old bartender Doug Nelson was found dead in September of 2009, following his shift at the Summers Lane Tavern.

24 year old Troy Douglas Adcock, Jr. is now charged with his murder.

“We did receive some information from a person that knew the suspect.” Notes Klamath County Deputy District Attorney Sharon Forster. “That resulted in a search warrant that was served.”

“And we recovered a weapon that we believe was used in the homicide at the Summers Lane Tavern.” Adds Sergeant Bob Fenner of the Oregon State Police.

Police believe that Nelson was killed during a robbery following an evening shift on September 3rd of 2009.

Nelson’s death hit friends, customers, and co-workers hard.

“It’s horrible.” Noted tavern manager Terry Lee. “I mean, he was a really good friend of mine, and I can’t understand why someone would do this for so small amount of money.”

Sergeant Fenner is confident that police have solved the case. “We’ve arrested the right person.”

And Deputy District Attorney Forster is confident that they’ve found the murder weapon.

“It will be sent off to the crime lab, and we’ll see what the results are. We do believe that that is the weapon.”

The Summers Lane Tavern closed not long after the murder. And there are many that hope this morning’s arrest marks the end of a long cold case investigation.

Adcock is being held without bail at the Klamath County Jail.

Details in the case will be presented to a Klamath County grand jury next week.
