Do you use paper or plastic
The next time you’re shopping for groceries in Ashland you may not have a choice.
The advocacy group, Environmental Oregon is kicking off it’s “ban the bag” campaign Monday. They want make oregonians aware of what they call a big problem… Oregonians use 1.7 billion plastic bags a year that contribute to 100 million tons of trash back in the ocean.
They’ll push the Ashland City Council to pass an ordinance… making it the first city in the valley to be plastic-bag free.
Some say it’s right move..
“Anything to keep the environment clean we’ve pretty much filled in the center of the earth with garbage”, says Jaynet Tagami.
But other find use in plastic bags.
“When its raining and I have to bunjee something to my bike its nice to have plastic,” says Dylan Rounds.
Shop N’ Kart, Market of Choice, and Ashland Co-op are already plastic free. While Rite Aid, Albertsons and Safeway
would have to plan on paper– and pack up their plastic.
Portland, Eugene, and Corvallis are already plastic bag free. Environment Oregon will launch it’s campaign Monday with a press conference at Lithia Park.
