Two men are found dead, and detectives have been combing a ranch near Bonanza today for clues…
Police are looking for possible links between a missing man, a burned-out truck, and a horse ranch.
Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger says the bodies were found in a remote wooded area Thursday afternoon…
“We found two bodies, that are both male. We do not have an identity, or a cause of death at this time.”
The bodies of the two men were found down Lionsgate road off of McCartie Lane on the Lion Heart Ranch, just east of Bonanza.
Sheriff Evinger says police initially weren’t investigating a homicide…
“What led up to this is we were working on an arson case, in which a pickup truck was burned out severely – about six miles from the location where the bodies were found.”
Evinger notes that the pickup truck is registered to Ricardo Jauregui of Oakley, California.
“We were also working on a missing person case that came in about a week after the arson case began.”
That missing person is Everado Mendez-Ceja, of Richmond, California. Relatives say he was headed to Bonanza to buy a horse, hay, or both.
Police are keeping media away from the exact location where the bodies were found. Klamath County Deputy District Attorney Sharon Forster has been working with the investigators…
“There’s a little cabin-type building there, and it doesn’t look like anybody’s resided there for quite some time.”
Sheriff Evinger adds that no suspects are in custody at this time. “We have persons of interest that we’re looking at, and we are conducting many, many interviews.”
State Police arrived this morning to process the crime scene.
The bodies were removed early this afternoon.
Police aren’t saying just how long the bodies may have been left in the woods.
It’s expected to take some time before a positive identification can be made.
