JPR To Broadcast Next “Rising Star”

A showcase for local musicians and a fundraiser for a local non-profit are now getting an added boost. Jefferson Public Radio has teamed up with Rising Stars and Britt to provide this year’s winner with maximum exposure over their airwaves.

La Clinica will be the beneficiary of the local music competition, now in its second year. It begins this weekend. Think American Idol for local talent.

Rising Stars will showcase 24 artists over the course of six weekends at South Stage Cellars in Jacksonville. Performers compete and the public votes on their favorite. Each vote is $2. All voting proceeds benefit La Clinica, a community health organization that provides medical and dental services to the uninsured and underinsured in the Rogue Valley.

Beyond the thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, now Jefferson Public Radio has announced it will broadcast the winner’s debut to listeners in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

The top 6 artists go into a two-day finale and will perform on the Main Stage at the Britt Pavilion in April.

Last year’s competition raised $7 thousand for CASA. Rising Stars kicks off this Saturday from 4 until 8 pm at South Stage Cellars.
