Oregon State Lawmakers Propose Legalizing and Taxing Marijuana

In Salem, state lawmakers are looking to stash some extra funds by legalizing and taxing marijuana.

House bill 33-71 would allow the production, processing and sale of marijuana in Oregon.

Growers 21 years and older could keep up to 6 plants and 24 ounces of marijuana at a time… the same rules under the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act.

Producers would be taxed $35 per ounce, which would be dispersed from a “cannabis tax account,” to Oregon State Police, the General Fund, and schools.

The bill is scheduled for an April 2nd hearing.
