A junior high school is being expanded to welcome nearly 300 new students this fall, in an 800 thousand dollar construction project taking place in Klamath Falls this summer.
Ponderosa Junior High is growing, to make room for up to 280 sixth graders.
“Sixth graders are coming from the five elementary schools.” Explains Wayne Huggins, Maintenance Director with the Klamath Falls City School District. “Of course, Fairview we closed, and we’re bringing them all over here.”
The big shift will take place this fall, when elementary schools in the city district will teach kindergarten through fifth grade, with sixth through eighth graders going to Ponderosa.
“We’ve got about nine total rooms for the sixth graders being added.” Notes Huggins. “With a couple of staff rooms in there for each building.”
Schools in Klamath Falls will re-open on September third…making for a tight construction deadline.
“You find what you can get done in that week.” Huggins stated. “And set your goals, and get them done.”
The majority of the project is funded through federal secure rural schools dollars.
