Public Hearing Regarding Fate Of Mountain View Paving

It’s been a heated battle for the owner of an Talent asphalt company.

Nearby residents say the plant causes a number of concerns; from health to environmental issues.

On Mondaythe two sides gathered in front of the Jackson County hearing officers.

Mountain View Paving owner Paul Meyer wouldn’t comment outside the hearing but a lengthy presentation was given by his lawyer, Daniel O’Connor- a land use attorney who testified onMeyer’s behalf.

On the contrary, representatives with Rogue Advocates and backed by a group of residents who live in Mountain View Estates adjacent to the plant claim the non-conforming use permit was granted on illegal terms and that the plant should have been moved in 2001 when it supposedly went from an aggregate site, to a paving operation.

The owner of Mountain View Estates says several residents have complained about the noise and pollution of operations that sits off interstate 5 in Talent.

Today’s hearing involved parties for and against the paving plant as well as the city of talent to weigh in,

Hearings officer Donald Rubenstein isn’t expected to make a ruling until September after hearingarguments plus taking written statements and considering further documentation.

The hearing was concluded with a flood plain evaluation.

It addressed the environmental impact the asphalt plant has on the area.
