Rogue River man takes the stand in his final day of trial

Medford, Ore. — A Rogue River man accused of dragging his ex-girlfriend out of a home in Rogue River naked and screaming into a car was back in a Jackson County courtroom on Thursday for the second and final day of his trial.

Jurors got to hear from the man in the center of the investigation. Jarrod Garwood took the stand for the first time.

“I look down and I see a female curled up in a ball on the floor, bloody,” said Garwood as he recounted the night in question.

Investigators say in November, Garwood pushed his way into a Rogue River home where his ex-girlfriend was hanging out, then against her will, dragged her naked and screaming to a car. She was able to escape.

In court, Garwood maintained he rescued her from a bad situation.

“She curled up to me like this and says baby, help me please. They’re raping me. And I said what Who’s raping you And she said Roy and Harold are raping me… they gave me too much heroin and ecstasy,” said Garwood on the stand.

However the victim took the stand as well and she remembered things much differently.

“I was perfectly fine, not a scratch on my body… Jarrod picked me up by my throat and the back of my head and dragged me out against my will,” she said.

Garwood said the two hung out after the incident and she told Garwood that police were looking for him.

“I said she should tell the truth,” said Garwood.

“Did you leave the house of your own free will” asked Jackson County prosecutor Lacie Nelson as she spoke to the victim.

“No,” the victim responded.

Both sides tell very different accounts of what happened and leaves jurors to decide who is telling the truth.

At last check on Thursday evening, the jury was still deliberating.

Garwood is facing nine separate charges including strangulation, kidnapping in the second degree, and assault in the fourth degree among others.
