UPDATE: Beacon Hill Fire Now At Approx. 115 Acres

Update (9:48am – June 1, 2013): The size of the Beacon Hill Fire has been revised to approximately 115 acres. Crews worked tirelessly overnight to put out spotfires and improve the fireline. Jones Road was reopened last night around 10pm.

Today, approximately 50 firefighters will be working to contain and extinguish the wildfire. Four fire suppression crews, four engines and two water tenders have been assigned to the fire.

Update (10:52pm): ODF officials say that they believe the fire was started by a sparking vehicle driving on I-5. They ask that anyone with information relating to the vehicle please call (541) 471-3883.

Update (7:04pm): Oregon Department of Forestry is reporting that the fire is currently up to 75 acres. One home has been damaged and an outbuilding burned. Currently NO evacuations have been called for and no injuries have been reported.

Currently 2 firefighting helicopters and 2 bulldozers are working the fire. Approximately 100 wildland firefighters and 70 structural firefighters are on scene.

Update (6:51pm): Grants Pass Police reporting that all city roads are back open.

Update (6:34pm): Both directions of I-5 near the fire are open. The Northbound slow lane is currently closed. The fast lane is open.

The cause is still under investigation.

We are on the scene of an approx. 50 acre fire along I-5 from milepost 55 to milepost 58 on the East side of the interstate. Multiple fire crews from Josephine, Jackson and ODF are on scene. Multiple structures are threatened. No word on any injuries. We have also not heard any report on how the fire was started.
