Yreka Community Mixed About Homicide Investigation

Charles Lara lives just down the street of the crime scene.

This isnt the first time police are investigating a homicide near his home.

Ive lived here for 6 years and it just doesnt bother me says Lara.

There have been now two homicide investigations in the area in just six months.

Something that concerns Michelle Bagwell, who owns a salon just around the corner.

Bagwell says it makes me really nervous, we actually have quite a few transient, homeless people and its gotten a lot worse here over the years.

Police havent confirmed yet if the person was homeless but the Deer Creek area is known as a place for transients to camp.

Something residents have picked up on.

Theres a lot of homeless down there” says Lara.

I mean its just a sad deal period, someone whos a transient, local or from out of town” Bagwell comments.

Residents say positive changes are actually in store for the area.

Lara says theyre going to build a park down here in a few years.

But for now, police say people should not go into the Yreka Creek area alone.

If you are running or jogging in the area they recommend to always go with another person.

This is a small town. Ive lived here pretty much my whole life, ive never been one to really lock doors and that kind of stuff, its definitely something to be aware of, it’s just too bad says Bagwell.
