Alternative childcare options if teachers strike

Medford, Ore. — With less than 12 hours to go before a strike becomes official many working parents are worrying about what they’re going to do about childcare. There is no school Thursday and if teachers strike there won’t be school Friday or Monday either. Thankfully, local groups are stepping up and providing childcare programs for working parents.

The YMCA is offering an all day program from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It’s $25 dollars, but it’s free for those already enrolled in an after school program with the Y. The Y is limited to 150 kids so parents are encouraged to call 541-772-6295 to register.

Medford Parks and Rec announced they’ll be offering day camps for the closure dates as well. The camps will be held at Santo Community Center from 8:00 to 5:00. The cost is $20 and space is limited to 30 kids. Parents can register online at playmedford.com.

Another option for parents is through America’s Best Kids. They’re program is $7 per hour, but $6 for members. Visit abkfun.com to register.
