It was just 3 months ago doctors were giving family members a very bleak outlook for Kierstin King.
Saying that she wasn’t going to make it and even if she did, her quality of life wouldn’t be great.
Kierstin made a choice to live and fight for her family.
Now a young family enjoys tender moments that just months ago, seemed impossible.
Kierstin says “we are lucky though, ya really lucky to be alive, I wasn’t supposed to live.”
In July, Kierstin was diagnosed with a very rare life threatening pregnancy complication called Acute Fatty Liver.
She had to have an emergency c-section in order to save the baby, then her condition took a turn for the worse.
“They told us to say our goodbyes, that she wasn’t going to make it,” says her husband Adrian King.
Kierstin was taken by a medical helicopter to OHSU where she was in a coma for several days.
“We were always digging for any good news we could get and of course there was never any good news,” says Adrian.
A few days later, she woke up.
Kierstin says “I couldn’t walk or talk when I woke up and that was just really crazy and I had a baby and gone to Portland and I was in a big hospital.”
In a big hospital, waking up to family members surrounding her.
A memory that still brings her to tears.
“I just feel bad for my family. That they had to go through that,” Kierstin says.
KierstIn still has a long road to recovery.
Kierstin says “It’s rough, it’s hard because I cant be alone.”
“She cant do the full time parenting with two kids (tiring) and only one working arm,” says Adrian.
But as always, she has her support by her side helping her every long step of the way.
“She’s little, but she’s a fighter,” says Adrian.
Kristin says she knew it wasn’t her time.
“I just think that God knew that i needed to be here.”
Because Adrian had to stay with his wife and children he did end up losing his job with Century Link.
