Town-Hall Meeting At The Jackson County Fairgrounds

A lot of opinions tonight on the future of the Jackson County Fairafter a not so successful season– residents put in their two cents on how to keep the tradition alive.

About 200 residents went to a town-hall meeting at the Bob and Phyllis Mace Memorial Center concerned about the future of the fairgroundsand its outstanding 300-thousand dollar loan.

Some say the fair’s trouble’s may be based on a lack of community participation

“Unfortunately with all the failure of the fair there’s been some mis-communication about the economic issues,” says Gary Bedell, a volunteer for the fairgrounds.

Jackson County Fair grounds board members said they’re doing whatever it takes to keep the fair going year after year.

They’re currently working on a report to show the fair’s economic impact on the area.

Last year the fair made $900,000 in sales butthis year it’s down to $476,000 because they didn’t host two concerts.

But not having the concerts saved them money too.
