Three New Fires Sparked By Lightning in Jackson County

Crews with the Oregon Department of Forestry are working on three new fires in Jackson county that were reportedly sparked by lightning early Wednesday morning.

The first grass fire was called in just before 2 A.M., on the 5000 block of Fish Lake road. That’s just outside of Butte Falls. Four units from the Butte Falls Fire Department were sent to the scene, as well as three units from ODF. They have since cleared the area. We’re waiting to hear back from officials for more information.

Minutes later, another grass fire was reported on the 2300 block of Cobleigh road in Eagle Point. Five units from ODF were sent out, and three more were added later.

Closer to Lost Creek Lake, crews are battling a new lightning-sparked fire on Medco A road in Trail. The call was received just before 2:30 Wednesday morning. The Oregon Department of forestry is the primary agency responding to the blaze, with nine units on scene.

Of course, NBC 5 continue to follow the latest on these new fires.
