Proposed Tax Levy To Fund Libraries

Jackson County residents could see a new property tax levy on the 2014 ballot, aimed at funding county libraries.

Ina meeting yesterday, officials proposed the levy of 27 cents per 1-thousand dollars of assessed property value. Reports say that would add up to just over $50 per year.

Right now, Jackson County is facing a 6.8-million dollar budget gap. If that money can’t be found, 14 of 15 libraries in Jackson County will close by July of next year.
