Activists are hoping community support will help spare Jackson County 4-H clubs from some deep cuts.
County funding for the Oregon State University Extension Service could be cut more than 200-thousand dollars, meaning the 4-H program in Jackson County would be forced to close.
Something residents don’t want to see happen.
“Most people know 4-H is about agriculture but it’s much broader than that. We have Lego robtics clubs, photography clubs, so kids are involved in a variety of educational experiences. The project is just a means to create great kids.”
Other departments facing budget cuts include the District Attorney’s office, Health & Human Services, development services and libraries.
The county will make it’s final decisions on budget cuts sometime in early June.
