The fight for a GMO free Jackson County continues. Today advocates met at the Ruch library to discuss genetically modified organisms and what’s being done to eliminate local cross pollination.
Local farmers tell us GMO crops are popular for large companies.
However, they say the crops can cross pollinate with local organic seed producers, causing them to lose their certification.
“It’s 5 years if someone loses their certification before they can get it back.”
A measure is on the May 2014 ballot, which would ban GMO crops in Jackson County.
However, those who want to ban GMOs say Oregon Senate Bill 633, if passed, would supersede county seed control.
