Spending Budget Proposals To Be Heard In Salem Today

Oregon Legislature budget writers are expected to release their two-year spending proposal in Salem today.

The offer is expected to include almost 7 billion dollars for Oregon schools over the next two years. That is 1 billion more than the current 2-year budget which is only 5.7 billion over two years.

The amount proposed would reverse some of the damage done by previous budget cuts such as losing teachers and cramming kids into classrooms.

The money, however would come, in part from public employee benefits such as retirement, and public employees across the board are already facing hikes in pension costs coming this summer.
