Senators Fight for Saturday Mail

Two of Oregon’s Senators are challenging the U.S. Postal Service’s plan to end Saturday delivery.

Jeff Merkley and Ron Wydencontend the unauthorized proposal would hurt rural communities and cost jobs.

They joined 22 othersenators in challenging the Postmaster Generals authority to discontinue Saturday mail delivery later this year without congressional approval.

They also point out that a shift to five-day service could lead to further declines in mail volume and revenues, worsening the U.S. Postal Services overall condition.
