A family facing homelessness struck a smart deal with a property investor. Now they’re fixing up the owner’s abandoned farm house in exchange for one year of free rent.
Jason Osborne lost his job and home when the recession hit in 2008. Since then his family has gone place to place, living wherever they could.
On a whim, he says they found the nearly condemned Medford home and asked the owner if they could live in it while fixing it up, luckily the answer was yes.
“When we were coming down this year to be homeless again, I called the owner and told him our situation. He said a year for free once you get the electricity turned on,” said Osborne.
So far they’ve replaced windows, re-done drywall, put in new beams, texturized walls, and removed soiled carpets. Neighbors we spoke with say it’s wonderful to see something like this, a family getting a leg up while improving the neighborhood.
