Raphael E. Amoroso was sentenced to serve 36 months in a federal penitentiary after being convicted of carrying a gun on school property and carrying a gun while intoxicated. Amoros’s mother, his current employer, and a neighbor were in the U.S. District Courtroom while Judge Owen Panner heard testimony from psychologist, Dr. Michael F. O’Connell. O’Connell says Amoroso has made progress in during their one hour per week sessions but he was concerned about his impulsive and over confident self coupled with substance abuse and interest in collecting guns, ammunition and armor.

Last year Raphael Amoroso was arrested after he approached a police officer during the end of a football game at Grants Pass High School. suring the time police say he was intoxicated and a search of his car turned up a handgun, 200 rounds of ammunition, binoculars, camouflage attire and a book tat describes a sniper attack during a football game.

During his sentencing, Amoroso faced the judge saying, I know i’m not perfect and there are things i need to work on.”

His current employer backed him up saying he was a valuable person to have at the company and a neighbor of eleven years says he was a positive person in their community.

In the end, it was the judge who decided he should do time, looking at all of the past history, his aggression issues and “narcissistic views.” Judge Panner did credit him for the year served in jail and suggested he seek more therapy within the penitentiary. Amoroso has 14 days to appeal the judges decision.
