Hurricane Sandy

The president has already declared a state of emergency for Washington DC, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey as Hurricane Sandy is starting to make it’s mark on the Atlantic coast. Some forecasters say the worst of the storm is expected to make landfall along the New Jersey shoreline Monday night. The time for preparation is pretty much over as people hurry to board up their homes, more than 6000 flights have been grounded. New York City and the rest of the Northeast is effectively shut down. School in New York City has been canceled, and subways have closed.

“We have an effective plan to keep New Yorkers safe and to recover from this as quickly as possible,” said N.Y. Mayor Bloomberg.

Mandatory evacuations continue in coastal communities across several states, at least 375,000 have been evacuated from their homes in lower Manhattan alone.
