Friends and family are in shock, mourning the loss of William “Huey” Huson, the cab driver killed over the weekend.
Family friend, Liz Butler says Huey was one of the first cabbies she met in the Rogue Valley, “I just fell in love with him, because he had such a kind heart.”
She tells us, both she, Huey, and his sister –who is also a cab driver — developed a close friendship.
“He and I would share recipes cause he used to cook. He made me the best navy bean soup,” she remembers.
However, Sunday Huey’s sister called Butler to tell her that 58 year old Huey was murdered.
“She had told me he was killed,” Butler says, “I didn’t believe it at first, cause I made her repeat it twice. It didn’t sink in, because who would hurt Huey”
Police say Huson picked up a passenger from Howie’s Bar in Medford. He was found shot and killed Sunday. The killer remains on the loose.
“I mean it’s scary, they’re picking up strangers that they don’t even know and hoping they don’t get hurt.”
On the day Huey died, it was also his 58th birthday. “They always made him a cake or his mother made him a pie,” Butler tells us. “They celebrated his b-day, but what a day.”
Now his family, who expected to celebrate his day, are left instead with questions and grief.
“He was so kind,” remarks Butler.”Big man with a big heart.”
To top it all off, Butler tells us Huey leaves behind a disabled mother and wife, who he cared for.
