Early this afternoon, heading north on I-5, we thought the roads would be okay.But, boy were we fooled.
An interstatesign warned of snow, winter like conditions and that’s exactly whatdrivers, including the NBC 5 News team,sawas theyapproached the Sexton Summit.
Drivers on the pass were brought to a near crawl; trying toavoid accidents and dangerous conditions.
“Because it wasn’t icy and because their was not packed snow…..it was more like a heavy rain,” said Ron Chase, atruck driver from Portland.
Much of the snowwas visible on the side of the road and in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Department of Transportation clean up crews were evenout in full force.
Government workers told usthe roads were not too bad considering the amount of snow the area received.
They say they cleaned up the interstate from milepost 60 to 80.
Officials say crews will be out throughout the night making sure the interstate is safe to drive on.
“You always have to be alert and watching for the other guy,” said Chase, as he was parked at a rest stop.
No accidents or major delays were reported in Grants Pass.
