Medford, Ore. — A memorial service for Senator Alan Bates has been set.
A private service is scheduled for this weekend and will only be open to family members. The family’s spokesperson tells NBC5 News they’re working to organize a public memorial service for the senator’s friends, patients, and colleagues.
They’re also in the process of setting up a scholarship fund in Dr. Bates’ name through Rogue Federal Credit Union.
Bates died Friday night at the age of 71 from an apparent medical issue while fishing with his son.
