Utah postal worker gives 12-year-old hundreds of books

Utah — A Utah postal carrier has delivered more than the mail to a 12-year-old boy.

Thanks to the power of social media, he is collecting shelves full of books for the child to read.

Matthew Flores is a typical 12-year-old boy, he loves Legos, he also loves to read and can get lost in what most of us consider junk mail.

Thats what Matthew was doing, when Ron Lynch saw him last week.

Ron Lynch, mail carrier, “A young man was standing here reading junk mail.”

As Lynch, who works for the Sandy Post Office, delivered mail.

Ron Lynch, “He asked me if I had any extra.” Lynch found out Matthew reads newspapers because he doesn’t have any books.

Lynch, “And I asked him about going to the library and he said he couldn’t afford the bus pass.”

“You know, I started reading at a very early age, my mother in still a love for books for me.”

Tugged at his heartstrings, At 12-years-old he didn’t want electronics, he didn’t want to sit in front of the TV playing games all day, this kid just wanted to read.”

So Lynch posted a picture of Matthew on Facebook, “You know 10, 20, 30 of my friends might give him books.”

Asking his friends to send the boy some books, but his plea, went worldwide, “I have heard from the UK, Australia, from India.”

People have already gone to Matthews home.

Matthew Flores, “They said these books are for you, I thought they were mistaken, but they were for me.” and today, Lynch made a personal delivery, more books to add to Matthews growing collection.

Matthew says he wants to read every book, “It’s super fun and it’s interesting, plus it gets you smarter, I don’t even know, I’m just super happy.”
