Fatal crash on I-5 near Gold Hill

Gold Hill, Ore. — One person is dead and another is in the hospital recovering this morning, July 28th, after a rollover accident in Gold Hill Monday afternoon.

Oregon state police shut down the I-5 northbound exit 40 ramp just after 1:30.

Troopers say the driver of a 2010 Toyota pickup, driven by 49-year-old Medford resident, Pricilla Rose, was exiting the interstate, but traveling at a high speed. Once off the ramp, officials say Rose lost control of the pickup and collided head on with a guardrail. The pickup rolled several times and came to an uncontrolled rest at the top of the exit.

Rose was extricated from the pickup and was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center where she is being treated for serious injuries. The passenger, 46-year-old Medford woman Debra Mauldin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe that speed and alcohol are contributing factors in the crash and seat-belt usage is undetermined.

No other vehicles were involved and the ramp is back open this morning.
