Klamath Falls man charged in crash that killed wife and brother

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A Klamath Falls man has been charged in connection with a horrific crash that killed his wife, and brother over a year ago.

The crash happened in December of 2013 about 10 miles south of Klamath Falls near Midland.

2 people were killed, and a third person injured when a northbound freight train smashed into a Jeep Cherokee.

Nicholas Conway was the only person to survive the crash.

His 25 year old wife Kalla Conway was pronounced dead at the scene, as well as his 33 year old brother MacKenzie, or ‘Mac’ Conway.

Nicholas Conway was arraigned in court Tuesday, and charged with causing their deaths.

“I can’t give you specifics.” Noted Klamath County Deputy District Attorney Jody Vaughan. “But I can tell you the grand jury did review the case, and decided that they should return charges of 2 counts of criminally negligent homicide.”

Conway was indicted on the charges in late January.

His lawyer entered a ‘not guilty’ plea, and Conway was booked and released on the charges until his next court appearance.

“We have a court date.” (May 4th) Adds Deputy D.A. Vaughan. “And at that time we’ll see if we can settle the case, or set it for trial.”

Though Nicholas Conway is being charged in the crash, initial reports by the Oregon State Police said that he was in the back seat…and that his brother MacKenzie was driving.
