13th Century Stolen Manuscripts Found In Oregon

Three stolen 13th Century manuscripts have been returned to Italian officials after turning up in the hands of a rare book dealer in Oregon.

Italian police contacted federal officials in 2010 after noticing two of the manuscripts were for sale on the McMinnville book dealer’s website.

The two pages were removed from two different antique choir books stolen from an Italian church and a monastery in 1990 and 1975. Homeland Security agents said the book dealer was also in possession of a third stolen manuscript.

The bookseller cooperated with investigators and will not be criminally charged.
