Arson Awareness Week in Oregon

Governor John Kitzhaber has declared this week Arson Awareness Week here in Oregon.

The U.S. Fire Administration is reporting that nearly 17,000 fires are intentionally set every year.

Here in Oregon, officials responded to nearly 200 arson-caused fires last year, and made 20 arrests in connection to arson.

Authorities are advising homeowners to report any suspicious activity to police.

In the Rogue Valley, authorities are continuing their investigation into a number of recent fires determined to be arson, all at vacant West Medford homes.

The latest fire was just last Wednesday night, at a house on Prune street.

If you have any information regarding any of the fires, you are asked to call Medford police at (541) 774-2300.
