An airman from central Oregon was one of four Americans killed when their military plane crashed 6 miles from the only U.S. base in Africa.
The four killed in the crash included: 1st lt. Justin J. Wilkens, 26, of Bend.
The plane was returning from a mission in support of the war in Afghanistan, the military said late Monday.
The crash occurred at about 8 p.m. Saturday.
A statement from the U.S. Africa command called it a “routine” flight.
No word yet on when a memorial will be for Wilkens.
