Medford Police say they believe the body of Medford man 87-yr-old Truman Tollefson was found Sunday morning. Tollefson originally went missing in December of 2012. His family said he left to run some errands and never returned. According to police, some family memberstold them hemay have suffered from some memory loss issues.
NBC 5 spoke with a Amanda Wolfe, Tollefson’s granddaughter. She denies her grandfather suffered from memory loss. She said when she learned that the body police found may belong to her grandfather, she felt relief then sadness.
“The last couple of month has been really hard because you don’t know anything […] It’s never not on your mind but yet you still have to move on without actually moving on,” said Wolfe.
According to police, around 11am on Sunday, a Rogue River resident who was out chopping firewood, phoned police after he found an abandoned car and a body nearby.
Detectives with the Medford Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to mile marker 9 on Upper Grave Creek Road, a remote area just outside of Rogue River.
According to authorities, Tollefson’s car became stuck when he tried to turn it around at a dead end. He got out of the vehicle and died nearby. Officials say there’s no evidence of foul play.
While police believe they found Tollefson’s body, an official confirmation is pending. It’s expected a positive ID will be made later this week by the Jackson County Medical Examiners Office.
