Car Careens Into Power Pole

Update 11:20pm: Approximately 216 customers are without power, down from 681 earlier.

Just before 10pm Friday evening South Central Avenue was closed at Earhart Street due to a car accident.

An elderly male driver careened into a power pole, creating a delay for many drivers in the downtown area.

Capt. Rob Wright, with the Medford Fire Department, said: “We had a single vehicle into a power pole. As you can see behind us, it sheared off the power pole and the driver of the vehicle self extricated and he’s being evaluated right now.”

Currently Medford Fire and Police have the area blocked off just in case the power lines break and there are reports of approximately 681 residences without power in the surrounding area.

Pacific Power estimates that power won’t be restored until 5am at the earliest. In the meantime the road will remain closed.
