Changes Are Coming To Medford

Changes are coming to downtown Medford.

“This is a new beginning for the city of medford,” says Medford City Councilman Chris Corcoran

Thursday, the Medford Urban Renewal Agency approved plans to build 25 one and two bedroom apartments on what’s now a parking lot for RCC.

Architect Mark McKechine says this will be like nothing Medford’s ever seen.

“Much like the designs that were popularized in Hollywood in the 30’s 40’s and 50’s, so it will be 25 little bungalows all attached with about 800 sq ft of deck space.”

Corcoran says the investment in Medford is much needed.

You’ve got a built in audience of potential customers because the people work there from 8-5 everyday.”

Also in the works, a massive upgrade to the Red Lion Hotel.

The Ashland Springs Hotel is partnering with private investors Mark and Sid Deboar of Lithia motors. Their plan is to add a brand new restaurant and a whole new vibe.

“Thats a really great location and I was thinking I don’t understand why they didn’t fix it up nicer its really nice the breeze blows through the creek.”

And behind the red lion is Hawthorne Park. the plan there is to build a bridge between the two so people can walk and ride their bikes from downtown to Bear Creek.

“It’s going to become a magnet and its going to become a place where members of this community will once again come down with their families and enjoy what the community has to offer

And residents say they’re ready.

“I’m in construction so i like to see projects that will help the economy and help the community.”

“It’s always good to upgrade and creates jobs.”

Ground breaking on the 2 million dollar apartment project is expected next summer and is being funded by an Ashland developer Allan Sandler. The City still need to review and normalize the plan.
