Cigarette caused fire destroys home

Medford, Ore. — Investigators say a cigarette likely caused a fire in West Medford that destroyed a mobile home.

Medford Fire and Rescue and Jackson County Fire District 3 responded to the fire on Nita Lynne around 4:30 Thursday, July 23rd.

Before they arrived a passerby saw the smoke and alerted the residents who were unaware of the blaze to get out.

Firefighters weren’t able to save the home and the situation grew so intense that neighbors feared for their homes as well.

There was a lot of smoke and a lot of fire and it started coming towards my house, theres trees in between so I was concerned about my house getting hit.

One resident received minor injuries.

Medford Fire and Rescue is reminding people tonight to be careful when disposing of cigarettes and to check smoke alarms frequently.
