Oregon Department of Forestry crews are battling five wildfires in the Elk Mountain area (more specifically, the Elk Creek drainage) near Trail.
ODF officials said the fires are believed to have been caused by lightning and are hard to access.
Crews have had to hike in to find the fires and try to contain them.
At last check, the largest of the fires is believed to be about three-acres.
It’s expected most of the fires will burn through Sunday night and more people will respond at first light on Monday.
Grassfires Break Out in Rogue Valley
There were also multiple calls for smoke investigations and grass fires in the area on Sunday.
Small grass fires broke out in Gold Hill and Medford. Crews were able to get them under control quickly. Officials say the dry, hot weather helped spark the fires.
La Pine Fire in Deschutes County Burns
Meantime, the “Burgess Road Fire” in the La Pine area of Deschutes County is still burning.
On Sunday, at last check, containment was around 80%. The fire has burned roughly 100-acres so far.
It’s believed the blaze began when trees were blown over onto power lines on Saturday. An evacuation for about 50 residents was also ordered, but has since been lifted.
