Cuts Coming To Food Stamp Programs

Even though the debt ceiling was averted temporarily,25 percent of Jackson County residents will still get a letter preparing them for a cut to the food stamps they rely on.

That’s because 2009 stimulus money for the snap program expires at the end of the month. Families could lose up to $65 a month, a single person, $11. Here in the Rogue Valley, many say this will make a tough situation even moredifficult.

But it doesn’t end there. Oregon Representatives are working on two farm bills that would create additional cuts if passed. In September, the U.S. House voted to cut four billion dollars from the federal program in the span of ten years and to decrease eligibility.
