Developing: Grants Pass Police Investigating Fatal Shooting

Update (7:58am): Grants Pass Police officials have confirmed that a 5 year old girl and a 44 year old woman were shot through their 1st floor apartment ceiling with an automatic rifle from the apartment above.

Officials tell NBC 5 that the 5 year old girl died shortly after arriving at the hospital. They also tell us that the 44 year old woman is currently listed in “stable” condition.

Police arrested Jon Andrew Meyer Jr. at the scene and he has been formally charged with “Manslaughter 2”, “Assault 3” and “Unlawful possession of a machine gun”

We’re following breaking news out of Grants Pass.

Authorities at the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety say several officers are on scene near the area of Northwest “C” and Dimmick streets.

They’re investigating a fatal shooting.

According to officials, residents reported hearing gunshots earlier Thursday night.

Officials say a five year old girl and a woman were shot. They were both were taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital. The girl later died. The woman’s condition is not known at this time.

Authorities have not released any information on a possible suspect in the shooting, and they say it was not a domestic dispute.

At this point police are still investigating. More information is expected to be released late Friday morning.
