Evacuating Large Animals

VirginiaDuff calls out for one of her family members, the horse she’s owned for seven years.

“I’ve had several horses before this one,” says Duff.

The Sunny Valley Rancher is caught between the Brimstone and Douglas Complex fires, now under a level two evacuation– meaning she’s told she to ready to leave at any moment.

“I have no where to go,” says Duff.

Big Red, her two cows, and four dogs also have no where to go.

“I spend all day with them.”

Duff says in the 17 years that she’s lived in the area shes never seen anything like this, afterlightening sparked wildfires burning now for a week.

“I was afraid the whole valley was going to end up going up.”

Although she lives alone on the 25 acre property, she says knows her neighbors are there.

“My neighbor has a trailer for a horse and a cow.”

But she’s hoping she won’t need their help…after all, she’d never leave her family behind.

Those animals are my family they’re my life.”

If you do have large animals American Red Cross officials confirmed that the Josephine County Fairground does welcome larger animals.

They are asking for residents to call ahead of time so they can prepare a spot for the animal.
