Gov. Kitzhaber Asks Oregonians To Repeal The Death Penalty

Ameasure that would ask voters to ban the death penalty is up for discussion in the Oregon legislature.

The house judiciary committee will hear public testimony on the measure tomorrow. If the committee decides to let the measure move forward, it would be on the 2014 ballot in Oregon.

The death penalty has a long history of on-again off-again support from voters. Most recently, it has been in effect since Oregonian’s voted for the death penalty in 1984.
