I-5 Bridge Collapses Into A Washington River

An I-5 bridge in Washington state has collapsed, dumping vehicles and people into the Skagit river.

The four-lane bridge collapsed about 7 p.m after a tractor-trailer that was too wide for the bridge hit the superstructure.

Fortunately no one was killed, but three people who were injured after plunging into the water were taken to area hospitals, including the man who saw the truck hit the bridge and his wife.

The incident has closed northbound and southbound traffic in the area and traffic is reportedly backed up significantly on I-5. The bridge carries an average of 77 thousand people a day and had already be reviewed as “structurally deficient”.
